Life is busy. Between work, family and friends it can seem as if there’s barely anytime to take care of yourself. After a long day, skincare often takes a backseat, especially when it’s far too tempting to fall straight into bed. But you should never underestimate the power of a good night time skincare routine.

It’s essential to incorporate products into your evening routine that not only cleanse and nourish your skin but also protect and care for it. Keep reading for our beauty experts’ top tips.

Throughout the course of the day your skin is exposed to an array of harmful elements, including harsh weather conditions plus air-borne dirt, bacteria and pollution. Even the makeup you wear plays a part in drying out your complexion and, over time, these factors begin to accelerate the ageing process.

Cleansing is the single most important part of your skincare regime. It helps to dissolve the dirt, bacteria and excess oils that gather on the face, as well as removing makeup and unclogging pores to restore a healthy glow. At MONU, we offer a range of cream cleansers for every skin type including the Gentle range for dryness and sensitivity, the Clarifying range for spot-prone skin and the Active range for combination complexions.

Double Cleanse

Sometimes your skin needs more than a simple cleanse, particularly on those heavier makeup days. Double cleansing is necessary to purge the skin of toxins; stopping them from penetrating the epidermal layer whilst making your skin more durable throughout the day.

The first cleanse should be performed with a balm, like our Cleansing Balm, that is thoroughly massaged into the skin to effectively remove every trace of makeup. This is followed by a second cleanse with a water-based cleanser to clean, refresh and hydrate. This deeper method of cleansing helps refine the surface of the skin, tackling common concerns like dullness, uneven skin tone and blemishes.

Night Creams

Skin loses water continuously throughout the day, and even more so while you sleep. This needs to be replenished and night time is the ideal time to achieve this. At MONU, our night creams are designed to deliver intense hydration whilst enhancing your skins cellular renewal.

Hannah White, Head of Education at MONU, advises: “My personal favourite is our Extra Rich Night Cream. The skins ability to absorb active ingredients peaks during the night, meaning this night creams key ingredients, like Hyaluronic Acid and Royal Jelly, can penetrate deeper into the skin to repair damage, restore radiance and form a protective barrier.”

Active Ingredients

Research shows that cell regeneration is much higher during sleep hours, so why not help the process along by incorporating powerful active ingredients into your skincare. Choosing products that contain Hyaluronic Acid, Retinol or Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA’s) stimulate the cell renewal process and maximise the results, helping to restore your skins natural glow while you sleep.

Our AHA Night and Day treatment is one of our most popular products for this very reason. Our AHA’s are derived from natural fruit extracts that increase the skins biological exfoliation process by breaking up the outer layer of the skin; eliminating dead skin cells and encouraging new ones to grow. The appearance of fine lines and pigmentation are reduced whilst skin is deeply nourished and hydrated for a more youthful look.

Eye Creams

The importance of eyecare should never be underestimated. This delicate area is prone to premature ageing and dehydration, not to mention the tell-tale signs of fatigue. Using an eye serum, like our Collagen Eye Cream, each night helps to repair tissues while you sleep, reducing puffiness and restoring elasticity in the process.

Hannah White recommends, “Applying the Collagen Eye Cream at night allows the product time to settle into the skin, without battling with your makeup. We’ve incorporated Marine Collagen and Polysaccharides into this serum to actively lift, smooth and reduce dark circles to put the sparkle back into your eyes!”

Facial Oils

Contrary to what you might believe, facial oils won’t leave your pores clogged or your skin shiny, in fact they deliver intense hydration and nourishment to restore your skins natural health and vitality.

Using facial oils, like our Soothing Hawaii Oil, at night allows them time to absorb into your skin while you sleep and provide essential protection during the day. With a combination of Sandalwood essential oil and Grape Seed Oil, the Soothing Hawaii formula is perfect for treating dryness and irritations as well as providing nourishment and balancing skin tone for a healthier complexion.

A night time skincare regime means your skin can do its job more efficiently. It takes just five minutes of your time and allows you to enjoy softer, smoother, healthier and more beautiful looking skin; so, what are you waiting for?
